Cape Coral Tropical Storm Fay

As the first rain bands from Tropical Storm Fay approach Southwest Florida, all the residents of Cape Coral are remaining calm.  The entire perspective is one of a community not quite sure a significant weather event is about to occur.  Most homeowners still have not opted to put up their storm shutters.  Traffic is light.  Gas stations and grocery stores are quiet.

Local meteorologists are forecasting winds powerful enough to scatter debris, knock down trees, and pull down powerlines.

Many gas stations have run out of some of the grades of gasoline they usually offer.  Yellow plastic bags cover the pump handles, and speak volumes of the storm preparations many have made over the past few days.

The Target department store on Santa Barbara was seen putting up storm shutters on their front windows.

Publix on Santa Barbara has done an excellent job anticipating the needs of their community, and most of the usually missing items are still well stocked.  Batteries.  Water.  Canned Goods.  Beer and Wine.

A ride through several Cape Coral neighborhoods revealed mixed reactions among homeowners.  Clumps of houses are closed up with storm shutters, while the majority are just business as usual.

Time to wait and see what unfolds.
