We are truly living in a Web 2.0 World now. As such, the Cape Coral Barometer has made some changes. We want to use any and all technologies available to help keep you informed about, and connected to, the Southwest Florida communities we've been providing coverage on since 2005. Change Number One: Urban Spoon Integration Our dining reviews are now cross referenced with those on Urban Spoon, the world's leading provider of time-critical dining data -- and one hell of an iPhone app. We have decided to share our reviews with Urban Spoon, and we have now placed a link to the restaurant's Urban Spoon page at the bottom of all our reviews...just in case you want to check for consistency, or get a second opinion.
Change Number Two: Social Bookmarking and Social Networking Facilitation At the bottom of each of our articles, you will now find a "Share" button. Clicking it will allow you to share the particular article you just read on any of your favorite Social Bookmarking or Social Networking websites. It's now a two step process. See something you like on the Cape Coral Barometer...click the "Share" button to share it with your friends. Change Number Three: Our New Facebook Account Whether you live in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Pine Island, Bonita Springs, Sanibel, or Captiva...you will find something of interest in our regular updates. We write in depth on recreation, dining, lodging, real estate, arts, culture, and news trends in our corner of the Gulf Coast.
In today's fast-paced world it can be tough to keep up to date on all your favorite websites and sources of information. As such, we've joined the Facebook revolution. Add us as a friend today and we promise to unobtrusively keep you updated on all the fun news and information you've come to know and love us for!

Florida Real Estate Dreams Come True |

In the midst of great crisis lies great opportunity. Over the past two years, the Cape Coral/Fort Myers area has shouldered some of the worst economic news in the country. We've consistently been leading the nation in the amount of foreclosed properties. The entire construction industry has been rendered virtually jobless. Businesses relying on the influx of cash the real estate boom was lining the pockets of their customers with have gone belly up. Many homeowners and investors found themselves upside-down in mortgages they couldn't afford, and they've simply walked away from the houses they owned. Renters who pay their landlords on time every month are being evicted because the landlords have been keeping the rent and defaulting on their mortgages, and now the banks are foreclosing. And, now, some Lee County residents are suffering through sulfur-scented homes, failing air conditioners, and possible health risks because unscrupulous companies installed defective Chinese drywall in their homes during the housing boom. Yet, for anyone who's ever had the dream of buying a home in Southwest Florida...your prayers have been answered. Southwest Florida real estate is trading hands at prices no one would have ever predicted just a few short years ago. Cape Coral and Fort Myers houses and condos are selling at prices this area hasn't seen since the 1990s. |

Living The Season with Eric Taubert Presents: Hot Mulled Apple Cider Apple picking is an autumn tradition for many New England families. The parents herd all the children into the car and head out across the hills and valleys of winding country roads.
The apple orchards exude colonial storybook qualities. Gnarled trees, ripe with fruit, stretch out in a semi-symmetric maze. Tourists with wooden bushel baskets walk amidst the rickety barns and log fences. Migrant harvesters with their wheelbarrows and ladders tend to their seasonal employment. Most often there's a petting zoo on the premises where the children torment innocent farm animals. Sometimes a hayride pulled by a tractor will serve as the mode of transport to the main picking area. The journey is bumpy, with rustic scents of mud, falling leaves, and farm animals giving way to fresh air among the apple trees. |

We'd like to invite all of our readers to stop by the two new websites designed by our staff here at the Cape Coral Barometer. The first is for a Massachusetts company that specializes in new and replacement Garage Doors for Worcester County, central Massachusetts, and the Rangeley, Maine area: Sterling Overhead Door. The second website is for a talented, young lady -- whose cartoon strip, "Seasons in the Sun" you'll be seeing soon in the Cape Coral Barometer. Her name is Charlene Taubert. We welcome them both to the Barometer Media family, and we hope you'll do the same. If you've got a local, home-based business which you think could benefit from our website design services...Come visit the Cape Coral Barometer website design page for more information and Contact Us today! |

As the first rain bands from Tropical Storm Fay approach Southwest Florida, all the residents of Cape Coral are remaining calm. The entire perspective is one of a community not quite sure a significant weather event is about to occur. Most homeowners still have not opted to put up their storm shutters. Traffic is light. Gas stations and grocery stores are quiet. |
