This thread discusses the Content article: Sharks on Sanibel Island Beaches

It's true - I get very uncomfortable thinking about sharks being close to the shore. It's something I don't want to think about next time I get the urge to wade out to a sandbar looking for shells!

I loved this article, thank you! ::if you had an applause smiley, it would be here::

Excellent article.

I've caught a shark or two out on the island, but nothing like those in the pictures here.

Thank you for setting the record straight and writing this excellent article on behalf of the fisherman Doug who was wrongly accused of posting fake photos on the forum mentioned! It has been my experience that the forum only wants rose colored information, and anyone who disagrees is scolded.

I LOVE Sanibel & Captiva and have been vacationing for over 33 years now. Yes, there are sharks in the waters..... duh it's the ocean! A gator from time to time shows up in the gulf as well!

My husband and I spent 5 weeks recently on West Gulf drive and a man pulled in Memorial week a 9 ft Hammerhead at sunset, does it disturb me..... yes, but it would never stop me from going to the islands. Year after year my husband or I see a large shark pulled in and I warn swimmers as I walk the beach I see who swim out to use common sense and they always thank me and say....I didn't even think about sharks
